Assembly Votes to Strengthen Reproductive Healthcare. Assemblymember Tom Abinanti joined his colleagues in voting to strengthen New York’s protections for access to reproductive healthcare in New York.
Voting along party lines, the Democratic Majority passed legislation to: - Protect the confidentiality of those who provide reproductive healthcare services and their patients;
- Allow a person to sue for damages where their right to obtain reproductive health services is interfered with by a lawsuit in any court in the United States;
- Prevent New York’s Governor from extraditing a person charged in an out-of-state criminal proceeding and prevents any state or local law enforcement agency from cooperating with an out-of-state agency or department seeking information regarding any reproductive healthcare legally provided in New York - unless the procedures violate New York State law
“These bills help make New York a sanctuary state for patients and providers,” said Assemblymember Abinanti, a former pro bono attorney for the Westchester Coalition for Legal Abortion. “Abortion is healthcare, healthcare is a human right. If the US Supreme Court tries to turn back the clock on reproductive freedom New York will be leading the way forward.” |
