New York State Insider: Statement from New York State Board of Elections: Primaries 2022.

Notice to Voters and Designating Petition Filers For Congress, Senate and Assembly.

The Supreme Court has ordered Congressional and State Senate elections to be held Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022. The Court is working to develop a new Political Calendar to reflect this primary date. At this time, we do not foresee the June 28th primary changing for our statewide offices, the State Assembly, Judicial Delegates and Alternates and any local offices that are scheduled to be on the primary ballot. We will continue to keep voters informed as additional information becomes available.

New York State Insider: Election Desk 2022 News: Statement from Lisa Hofflich Democrat for New York State Senate 36th District: Elections 2022.

New York State’s highest court ruled this week that the State Senate lines must be redrawn, with a new primary date of Tuesday, August 23rd.

Let me assure you right now: this ruling changes nothing for me. I decided to run for State Senate to improve public safety, fight climate change, and create quality affordable housing. Hard-working New Yorkers will still wake up tomorrow concerned about those issues.

You deserve a leader in Albany with the professional and lived experience to cut through the noise and deliver. That’s the kind of State Senator I’ll be for you. It’s why I’ll still be out tomorrow morning to speak with my neighbors about how we can improve our communities.

All my best,

Lisa Hofflich Democrat for New York State Senate 36th District.

New York State Insider: New York State Senator Pete Harkcham 42nd District: Prescription Drug Take Back.

New York State Insider: [PRESS RELEASE] Senator Biaggi, Senator Gounardes, and Assemblymember González-Rojas Introduce Stop Silencing Survivors Act to Ban Non-Disclosure Agreements.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, April 29th, 2022.

Senator Biaggi, Senator Gounardes, and Assemblymember González-Rojas Introduce Stop Silencing Survivors Act to Ban Non-Disclosure Agreements.

ALBANY, NY – Senator Biaggi, Senator Gounardes, and Assemblymember González-Rojas have introduced legislation (S8914) to ban non-disclosure and non-disparagement clauses in settlement agreements in workplace disputes and in employment contracts.

This legislation bars employers from including a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) or non-disparagement agreement in a waiver, settlement, agreement, or other resolution to an alleged violation of the human rights law or labor law. Agreements may still include language barring an employer from revealing the identity of an employee or the circumstances surrounding their complaint, providing important protections to victims who want privacy. Additionally, the legislation bars employers from including language in a contract or application for employment as a condition of employment that bars employees from disclosing information related to any future alleged violations of the human rights law, labor law or their experience with the employer.

“Non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) have been used again and again by employers to silence survivors of workplace harassment and discrimination and protect abusers. By passing the Stop Silencing Survivors Act we can put the power back in the hands of employees –– giving them the agency to share their experiences when and if they so choose. I am incredibly grateful to the Sexual Harassment Working Group and Lift Our Voices for spearheading this movement to create safer, more equitable workplaces, and to my colleagues Senator Gounardes and Assemblymember González-Rojas for their partnership on this legislation,” said Senator Alessandra Biaggi.

“As we’ve seen in recent years, employers across all sectors in New York frequently weaponize non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to silence employees who’ve experienced workplace harassment or discrimination. Employers also use NDAs to deter new hires from speaking out about potential future harm. With this new bill, employers will no longer be allowed to do either and survivors will cease to be silenced. I’m pleased to sponsor this legislation along with Senator Biaggi and grateful to the Sexual Harassment Working Group and Lift our Voices for their tireless advocacy to protect New York’s workforce. It’s time New York join states including Washington, New Jersey, and California in passing a ban on NDAs to further improve our state’s culture of workplace harassment and discrimination,” said Assemblymember Jessica González-Rojas.

"NDA's silence victims of harassment and discrimination plain and simple. They protect abusers and prevent employees from sharing information that can protect them from future harm. The Stop Silencing Survivors Act will finally put an end to this predatory practice and allow for survivors to have authority over their own trauma. I am excited to continue our work to dismantle the harassment protection machine alongside my partner in the Senate, Senator Biaggi, Assemblymember Jessica González-Rojas, Lift Our Voices and the Sexual Harassment Working Group,” said Senator Andrew Gounardes.

"Survivors and whistleblowers should not be forced to sacrifice their voices in order to move on with their lives. The Stop Silencing Survivors Act finally gives workers the agency to privacy on their terms, restoring their right to be the owners of their own experiences by allowing them to speak publicly about what happened to them, if and when they are ready. We thank bill sponsors Senator Biaggi, Senator Gounardes, Assemblymember González-Rojas, and Lift Our Voices for their support and dedication to changing the culture that allows toxic harassment and discrimination to fester,” said the Sexual Harassment Working Group.

“Concealment clauses like NDAs and non-disparagement agreements are tools to keep dirty laundry under wraps and ensure that the culture of workplace toxicity continues to thrive unabated. In an era when organizations routinely talk about diversity, equity and inclusion, it is all the more important that they allow workers to speak honestly about toxic workplace issues. With this legislation, New York State is taking a momentous step in ensuring that survivors can finally demand a more respectful and inclusive workplace, free of fear and retaliation,” said Gretchen Carlson and Julie Roginsky of Lift Our Voices.

“This bill ensures employees will no longer be bullied into silence if they want to hold employers accountable, while leaving room for reasonable protections of privacy,” said Margaret McIntyre, Employee Rights Attorney.

New York State Insider: Statement from New York State Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar on Historic Gerrymandering Court Victory.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 27, 2022.

Statement from New York State Conservative Party Chairman
Gerard Kassar on Historic Gerrymandering Court Victory.

Brooklyn, NY - “Today’s court victory against Kathy Hochul’s and
the Democratic state legislators’ attempted gerrymandering of New York senate and congressional lines will be heard all across America. Mrs. Hochul and her Democrat colleagues blatantly attempted to subvert the will of voters, who expressly passed a referendum to create a nonpartisan redistricting commission just a few years ago. Today, the Governor and Democratic Party leaders had their hats handed to them.

“This decision legally validates what Conservatives, Republicans,
editorial boards, and good government groups have been saying for months: the court-rejected lines were right out of the Tammany Hall playbook. This is a
good day for democracy in New York.”

New York State Insider: Election 2022 Desk: Astorino: Hochul Has Power to Demand I.D. Checks on Secretive Undocumented Immigrant Flights.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ASTORINO: HOCHUL HAS POWER TO DEMAND I.D. CHECKS ON SECRETIVE UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANT FLIGHTS INTO NEW YORK.

Asks, “Why is Governor Ignoring Common Sense Safety Measure?”

New York-Apr. 27…Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino, the former two-term Westchester County Executive, today called on Governor Kathy Hochul to use powers granted to her under a 1951 law (Executive Law, Section 8) to determine the identities of undocumented immigrants being secretively flown into New York by the Biden Adminstration.

Mr. Astorino first exposed these secretive flights in August 2021 — many of them arrive in the dead of night — and he wrote to President Biden in February demanding to know flight details, including passenger manifests. Mr. Biden never responded.

Mr. Astorino has repeatedly called on Governor Hochul to get answers from the Biden Administration, yet she has remained virtually silent on the issue. Mrs. Hochul did, however, add $2.1 billion in cash grants for illegal immigrants living in New York communities in last year’s state budget, effectively encouraging more illegal border crossings and resettlements into New York, Mr. Astorino charged.

The flights are typically met by buses which transport the passengers into communities throughout New York State, which are given little or no information about who’s arriving. These communities then have to scramble to accommodate the new immigrants.

“It’s Governor Hochul’s responsibility to know who’s on these flights, yet she’s refusing to use her powers to find out,” Mr. Astorino said. “New Yorkers have a right to know who’s being flown in, and taxpayers should be informed about the scope of this secretive relocation program. Government is supposed to be accountable to its citizens — even in New York.”

New York State Insider: [PRESS RELEASE] Senator Biaggi and Senate Majority Pass Legislation to Combat Domestic Violence and Support Survivors.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, April 27th, 2022.

Senator Biaggi and Senate Majority Pass Legislation to Combat Domestic Violence and Support Survivors.

ALBANY, NY – Yesterday, the New York State Senate advanced a legislative package to combat domestic violence and provide greater protections for survivors of domestic abuse in New York State. The legislative package includes S404/A3422, sponsored by Senator Alessandra Biaggi to allow prosecutors to petition a court to access orders of protection issued in association with prior sealed domestic violence cases if relevant to a new proceeding.

State Senator Alessandra Biaggi (D-Bronx/Westchester) issued the following statement:

“Unfortunately, domestic violence remains a pervasive issue in New York State that has only been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. New York State currently allows law enforcement officials to petition a court to access previously sealed records in domestic violence cases – excluding prosecutors. This bill will allow prosecutors the same access to prior records, ensuring that serial abusers are held accountable for further violations and domestic violence survivors have the ability to seek justice in the courts. As legislators, we must do everything we can to both ease the burden for survivors seeking justice and prevent future violence. I am grateful to Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and my Senate colleagues for prioritizing this issue.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 27, 2022.

Attorney General James Responds to Trump’s Appeal of Contempt Ruling.

NEW YORK – New York Attorney General Letitia James released the following statement in response to Donald J. Trump’s appeal of a ruling that found him in contempt of court and imposed a $10,000 fee for every day he refuses to comply with subpoenas from the Office of the Attorney General:

“The judge’s order was clear: Donald J. Trump is in contempt of court and must pay $10,000 a day until he complies with our subpoenas. We’ve seen this playbook before, and it has never stopped our investigation of Mr. Trump and his organization. This time is no different.”

New York State Insider: Statement from New York State Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 26, 2022.

Statement from New York State  Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar.

Brooklyn, NY - “Try as she might, Governor Kathy Hochul can’t fool
New Yorkers, but it’s not from lack of trying. Ever since joining disgraced
ex-governor Andrew Cuomo in the Executive Chamber, Mrs. Hochul has been working to mislead us on everything from bail reform to nursing home deaths to ridiculous stadium deals. Now, she’s pushing legislators to pass a bill that
would only benefit her personally by getting her criminally indicted Lt.
Governor off the ballot. New Yorkers see this for what it is: another blatantly
self-serving political ploy from a governor looking out only for herself. The
time for change is now.”

New York State Insider: Election Desk 2022: Lisa Hofflich Democrat for New York State Senate, 36th District: An issue many don't want to talk about, but we MUST: Elections 2022.

As we enter the final days of April, we can’t forget that this is National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. This is something many people don’t want to talk about, but it’s an issue we must address.

I’ve dedicated my life to fighting these issues, because I believe the 1 in 5 women in the U.S. who have experienced rape or attempted rape deserved better. Either as an advocate or working for the state and federal governments, I have fought day and night to protect victims of sex trafficking, assault, and domestic violence.

We have no doubt made progress, from the Anti-Trafficking Law of 2007 to making New York just the sixth state to raise the minimum age for marriage without exceptions to 18. Yet there is still so much work ahead, as more than 40% of women and a quarter of men in the U.S. have in their life experienced sexual assault.

I’m running to make the Bronx and Westchester safer for everyone. Nobody should have to worry about looking over their shoulder or being betrayed by someone they trust.

All my best,

Lisa

New York State Insider: New York State Attorney General James: Court Rules Donald J. Trump in Contempt of Court for Failure to Comply with Judge’s Order in Attorney General James’ Investigation.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 25, 2022.

Court Rules Donald J. Trump in Contempt of Court for Failure to Comply with Judge’s Order in Attorney General James’ Investigation.

Judge Rules that Donald J. Trump Must Pay $10,000 Every Day Until He Complies with Orders to Provide Documents to AG's Office.

NEW YORK – New York Attorney General Letitia James today won a major victory in her office’s ongoing civil investigation into Donald J. Trump and the Trump Organization’s financial dealings with a judge ruling that Donald J. Trump is in contempt of court. After hearing arguments earlier today, the Honorable Arthur Engoron of the New York County State Supreme Court ruled that Donald J. Trump is in contempt of court for failing to comply with his previous orders to provide documents to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) and imposed a $10,000 fine on Mr. Trump for every day that he continues to violate the court’s order to produce these documents.

“Today, justice prevailed,” said Attorney General James. “For years, Donald Trump has tried to evade the law and stop our lawful investigation into him and his company’s financial dealings. Today’s ruling makes clear: No one is above the law.”

In April 2022, Attorney General James took legal action to hold Donald J. Trump in contempt for his refusal to comply with the court’s order to produce documents in response to a subpoena served on him by OAG as part of its ongoing investigation into his financial dealings. The motion for contempt also sought to impose a $10,000 fine on Mr. Trump for every day that he violated the court’s order to produce these documents.

New York State Insider: New York State Senator Pete Harckham 42nd District: Getting Back to Work.

When the State Legislature was working with Governor Hochul on a FY2023 State Budget, one of our main goals—perhaps our top goal—was getting New Yorkers back to work.

That meant big investments in child care, education and small businesses.

And we delivered.

·         $7 billion in child care funding, plus $1.6 billion in additional child care vouchers.

·         A whopping $287 million in Foundation Aid for schools in Senate District 40.

·         $15 million for new pre-K slots in the district as well.

·         The continuation of the small business grant program ($200 million—based on my legislation!—plus another $200 million).

·         $250 million for Covid-related expenses for small businesses.

Plus major investments in healthcare and home care workers. Environmental protections, like my freshwater wetlands bill. Transportation and infrastructure improvements.

We are getting New Yorkers back to work.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

New York State Senator Pete Harckham 42nd District.

New York State Insider: Statement from New York State Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar on Appellate Court Decision on Congressional Redistricting.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 21, 2022.

Statement from New York State Conservative Party Chairman
Gerard Kassar on Appellate Court Decision on Congressional Redistricting.

Brooklyn, NY “The New York State Conservative Party applauds today’s decision on the Democratic Party’s gerrymandered New York congressional lines by the Appellate Division, Fourth Judicial Department of the Supreme Court of The State Of New York. Governor Kathy Hochul and the Democratic Party clearly drew district lines unconstitutionally to benefit themselves in this November’s congressional elections. We wish that today’s decision included State Senate and Assembly lines, which were cynically drawn by the Democrats as well.

“We are also pleased that a Special Master is working on an
independent set of lines while the State Legislature is given one last chance
to fix its wrong.  It is our understanding that the New York State Court of Appeals has agreed to hear this case.”

New York State Insider: Election Desk 2022: Statement from Lisa Hofflich Democrat for New York State Senate 36th District: My plan for Public Safety: Elections 2022.

We started this campaign on the idea that our children should feel safe walking down the street. Sadly, they face a new fear every single day.

The latest string of violent incidents demand us to act in a meaningful way. Albany must take a holistic approach that balances public safety with community empowerment.

As your State Senator, I will:

  • Support Law Enforcement to Handle Mental Health Cases

  • Prevent the Flow of Illegal Guns

  • Invest in Community-Based Interventions

  • Expand Public Education and After School Programs

  • Improve Bail Reform

  • Combat Hate Crimes and Anti-Semitism

All my best,

New York State Insider: Election Desk 2022: TOM ABINANTI - THE MOST EXPERIENCE, DESIRE & ENERGY.

WHO REALLY WANTS TO REPRESENT THE 92 ASSEMBLY DISTRICT?

TOM ABINANTI - THE MOST EXPERIENCE, DESIRE & ENERGY.

Wednesday, April 20, 2022 – (Greenburgh-Mt. Pleasant, NY)  During this year’s difficult and challenging petitioning season, the candidates for the NYS Assembly 92nd  district have each shown the level of their desire to serve the people of Greenburgh and Mt. Pleasant.

Assemblyman Tom Abinanti submitted over 2,100 signatures to get on the ballot - 300 more than his opponent. Abinanti personally obtained over 400 signatures while his opponent personally obtained less than 20.

For the past several weeks, Tom Abinanti has been working in legislative session in Albany, fighting on behalf of his communities and all New Yorkers.  As Chair of the Committee On People of Disabilities, he led the fight for a better budget for those with physical and developmental disabilities. While Tom spent most of his weeks in Albany, he would return home to begin his campaign.

Tom Abinanti continues to show the enthusiasm, passion and energy required to get things done in Albany and provide service to people in Greenburgh and Mt. Pleasant.

“Thank you to my supporters who carried my petitions and to Democrats who signed my petition” said Tom Abinanti. “Our very successful petitioning campaign demonstrates that we have the enthusiasm, desire and energy to win the primary – and continue to represent the people of the 92nd Assembly District.”

New York State Insider: Election Desk 2022 News: Astorino Challenges Zeldin to 'Come Clean' on Petition Challenges.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ASTORINO TO ZELDIN: WHO’S PAYING FOR PETITION CHALLENGES?

Says Backroom Politician Needs to Come Clean.

“Zeldin has told numerous reporters that he has nothing to do

with the challenges, and did it with a straight face, just like his mentor, Andrew Cuomo, used to do.”

New York-Apr. 20…Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino, the former two-term Westchester County Executive, today called on primary opponent Lee Zeldin to come clean about his involvement with legal objections to petitions filed by Astorino and fellow GOP gubernatorial candidate Andrew Giuliani. Tens of thousands of Republican voters across the state signed petitions to allow Astorino, as well as Giuliani, to compete in the Republican primary.

Zeldin has ridiculously denied being involved in the challenge to Astorino and Giuliani, but Astorino isn’t buying it.

“Lee Zeldin needs to be truthful about who’s orchestrating these bogus and intricate petition challenges,” Mr. Astorino said. “He’s told numerous reporters that he has nothing to do with the challenges, and did it with a straight face, just like his mentor, Andrew Cuomo, used to do. Zeldin needs to say whether his campaign is directly or indirectly contributing to the legal challenge and whether he or any members of his campaign team have had any communications with the complainants or attorneys in the case. His answer will speak directly to his integrity.”

Astorino also asked why Zeldin is so afraid of political competition.

“I’ve got an eight-year record governing as a conservative Westchester County Executive that I’m proud to stand behind, which includes cutting taxes and holding the line on spending,” Astorino said. “But Zeldin apparently doesn’t want to be asked about his record in Albany and Washington, where he voted more often with Governor Cuomo than he did with President Trump. As a state senator Zeldin even touted Cuomo for President. My guess is he’s desperately trying to avoid discussion of that, but primary voters have a right to know it.”

Astorino said that his signatures will be proven to be valid and he will be on the June 28 Republican primary ballot.
