In the final hours of this annual session of the State Legislature, we struck two notes of sanity.
First, we finalized a package of common-sense gun laws that will require semi-automatic rifles to be licensed and microstamping of ammunition, put restrictions on body armor and expand the “Red Flag” law.
In addition, we strengthened legal protections for women from out of state seeking abortions because the procedure is outlawed where they live.
That’s why we need Democrats in elected office.
Along with these major issues, my focus has been on bolstering residents and small businesses financially in a post-pandemic economy, protecting the environment against climate change and fighting the opioid overdose crisis to save lives.
Successes: In 2022, the Senate approved 56 of my bills, the full State Legislature approved 32 and Governor Kathy Hochul has signed five into law already, with more executive approvals to come.
I am proud of my accomplishments this past year, and those of my colleagues as well, but this is no time to grow complacent. I’m looking forward to the next legislative session in 2023.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Pete
