New York State Insider: Election Desk 2022 News: New York State Senator Shelley Mayer.

Labor Day is the day to celebrate workers, and to honor unions for the work they do on behalf of workers - fighting for improved working conditions, rights, salary and benefits. One of my top priorities has always been to fight for working people, and to ensure unions have the power they need to secure good jobs with good benefits for their members. I truly believe unions built the American middle class - and we are in danger of losing it!

Importantly, today workers are more energized than ever, from Amazon workers in Staten Island to Starbucks workers across the US. Time to fight for them, and make sure their voices are heard! (And let me add - if you don’t know anyone in a union, please let me know! I’ll introduce you to the dynamic world of union activism!)

I’ve been proud to have the support of so many NYS unions, and look forward to continuing to work with them in the future. Some of them are:

  • NYS AFL-CIO
  • LIUNA (Laborers International)
  • Westchester Putnam Building & Construction Trades
  • Teamsters Local 456
  • NYSUT (NYS United Teachers)
  • SEIU Local 1199
  • New York State Nurses Association
  • Communication Workers of America
  • Council of Supervisors and Administrators (NYC Public Schools)
  • NYS Professional Firefighters
  • Local 628 Yonkers Firefighters
  • TWU Local 1 (includes Bee Line employees)
  • CSEA (Civil Service Employees Association)
  • RWDSU (Retail Wholesale and Department Store Workers
  • IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees)
  • Affiliated Police Association of Westchester
  • SEIU Local 32 BJ
  • Yonkers PBA
