New York State Insider: Election 2022 Desk: Astorino: Hochul Protecting Cuomo on Nursing Home Death Justice.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ASTORINO: HOCHUL PROTECTING CUOMO ON

NURSING HOME DEATH JUSTICE.

When the camera lights were on, Hochul made a big show of meeting with some of the families whose loved ones perished under the Cuomo/Hochul policies, but once the lights were flipped off she has avoided taking any leadership role in helping the families or responsibility for what occurred.”

New York-May 4…Governor Kathy Hochul is systematically frustrating efforts to achieve justice for the families of approximately 15,000 New Yorkers who died in nursing homes because of ill-conceived Covid-19 policies enacted — and then covered up — by the Cuomo/Hochul Administration in 2020, Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino today charged.

Hochul, who promoted to the press a meeting with surviving family members after then-Governor Cuomo resigned, has done nothing since to advance the cause of justice for the families, Mr. Astorino said. Indeed, he said, she is systematically frustrating their attempts to get answers and to establish a victims compensation fund.

“When the camera lights were on, Gov. Hochul made a big show of meeting with some of the families whose loved ones died under the Cuomo/Hochul policies,” Astorino said, “but once the lights were flipped off she has avoided taking any leadership role in helping the families or responsibility for what occurred. New York State didn't just make a catastrophic mistake with these policies, its chief executive proactively worked to cover up what it had done, and now, it seems, Hochul is doing the same in the hopes that the issue and the families will simply go away. That’s not the type of leadership New Yorkers should expect from its governor.”

Astorino said that, as governor, he would demand a full and immediate investigation of what occurred under the Cuomo/Hochul administration, and that he will support efforts to create some type of fund for the victims’ families.

“Albany royally screwed up here, and it cost approximately 15,000 people their lives. It’s time for New York State to take full responsibility for what occurred,” Mr. Astorino said.
